The wife tossed out the idea of possibly getting a Mustang for her. V8, auto, in good shape, and good to scoot back and forth in traffic into Brooklyn. Parking is a non-issue as there is plenty where she works, but she'd have to brave the Belt Parkway. She has a commuter already, but just wants something to cruise in that can do her commute in a pinch. Within minutes I came across this locally:
The ad was as follows:
$8500
2004 Mustang GT
4.6L V8
Automatic
Sonic Blue
71300 Miles
Leather Interior
4 season daily driver
Paint in good shape
4 - 2nd place finishes in car shows for its class
1 - 1st place finish in car show for its class (This September)
MODS:
Alarm w/ Auto Start
8000K HID Headlights
Mach 1 Chin Spoiler
3 Spoke "Spinner" Center Caps
Stainless Mustang bumper lettering
Sequential Tail Lights
Blacked out Mustang 3rd brake light
Polly Motor Mounts
Polly Rack and Pinion Bushings
R2C Cold Air Intake
BBK Shorty Headers
Pypes High Flow Cats
Full Boar Maxx Flow Mufflers
SCT Xcal 2 W/ Bama Tunes:
87 Winter Street Tune
91 Summer Performance Tune
91 Summer Race Tune
Will Sell with Stock Intake, Stock Headers, and Stock tail light harness.
Keep in mind I'm on Long Island and that the price of these cars here tends to be on the high side as opposed to other parts of the U.S. The fact that it's local lends to an easy transaction and a car I can go over easily and test drive before making any kind of offer, not to mention no traveling/shipping expenses.
That said, I still think there's wiggle room here. I think a counter offer of $7-7,500 is in order so long as everything is in working order on the car.
Thoughts Comments? Suggestions? NPOCP?

A V6 would likely be better for the intended usage and cheaper. I'm not sure about the LI Mustang market though.

Mach 1 Chin Spoiler
This will not last long in a Brooklyn commute. Also, if the modded taillights are hideous, that'd be a dealbreaker for me. Factor in the cost of winter tires as well unless the seller has ones to throw in or you can garage it all winter. I wouldn't go for more than 7k.

Could you try to get her into a manual?

Probably NP given where we live - mods always concern me however. Engine mounts before 100K in a modern car? OTOH, maybe they do something special.

Driving a manual on Long Island SUX. The car may have bracket racing in it's future as well.

I'd rather replace the timing chain guides on a 4.6 than the head gaskets on a 3.8. Cheaper, easier, and less prone to breakage.

I skipped over a lot, so I didn't see that at first. That is a valid reason for going auto.

My S197 is the garage queen. The tail lights being sequential may in fact be stock lights with a kit installed in place of the stock harness. I'll have to look into that.

She hates those. I've only seen a select few that look as good in person as they do in pictures.
Plus this:
Now for the flaws: it has a few spots of minor surface rust around the driver's side door and on two of the wheels (all seen in the photos), a small ding in the same door (so subtle that I couldn't even get it to photograph), a few chips in the paint, is missing a radio (previous owner removed it for some reason; because of this, I removed the antennae, which comes included in a box full of extra parts), a small crack on the rear bumper and one of the taillights (also seen in the photos), the struts on the hatch don't fully support it when opened, the tach works but isn't reading accurately, and the fuel gauge and windshield wipers aren't working.
NO.

The tune is what would worry me. It also might be a bit loud. The polly motor mounts might translate a few more vibrations in the interior but that might not be a big deal. It's a good thing the originals were replaced anyway. I'm not sure about the aftermarket alarm either.
But for the price and mileage I guess it isn't bad. Just take a good look at it in person. I found a white 02 GT for that price and that thing was beaten on. Not saying that this is, just make sure you really look at it. Sonic blue is a great color to.

I love the body style a lot. This feels like the guy thinks his mods make it worth extra though. Sure she doesn't want a manual instead? They're more fun.

Polly Motor Mounts
Wouldn't that make it shake like hell?

Cologne V6 and "better" should never go into the same sentence together, especially when referring to New Edge SN95s.

I have a reputable dyno tuner local. He did my S197. He'll do this car too.

That's good. Bama isn't exactly the greatest. Another thing I noticed, the headlight covers are actually somewhat clean! Pretty rare to see lately. Good luck on the car, all around it doesn't seem to bad.
